THE DON LUSHER PRIZE

In the autumn of 2007, the British Trombone Society set up a bi-annual competition for young people up to the age of 23 to win a prize in memory of Don Lusher. The competition would celebrate Don's lyrical, melodic and musical style of playing.

The first competition took place in 2007/8 and was won by Robbie Harvey, who went on to win the Carl Fontana Solo Competition in Salt Lake City. One of the prizes is a silver slaver, which will have the winner's name engraved on it.

For the 2009/10 competition young people are invited to send in CDs of their playing two set pieces of music accompanied by piano by the end of 2009. Three finalists will be chosen and ask to play at a BTS Meeting in the early summer of 2010. All details are to be found late August/early September in the BTS Magazine or BTS Website.

If you know of any up and coming young trombonists please let them know about this competition.
